History of the Norwegian forest cat
The Norwegian forest cat is a natural breed and not and not a descendant nor hybrid of any wild cat species .The cat has a feral appearance though it has no ties with wild cat species as most people would think.
The cat probably arrived in Norway from Europe .It is a descendant of domestic cats that were introduced in Europe but Romans .
The cats came with settlers, traders, or crusaders. When the cats arrived they were mainly short haired because of their Egyptian origin .
Due to the harsh climate like winter the cats developed long, dense, water-resistant coats. Efforts to have the Norwegian f Forest Cat recognized as a distinct breed began around 1930 .
The breed came in to a near extinction after world war II .After 1970 people from Norway with interest in cats began to preserve the Norwegian forest cat.
This breed arrived in the United States in 1980.In 1984 the international cat association recognized the breed and accepted it for championship competition .In 1993 the breed attained CFA championship status.
The Norwegian forest cat is a natural athlete .The cats are very active and playful and will retain this spirit in to adulthood .
Despite having a impressive muscles and all-weather exterior the cats are very sweet friendly and really love human company .
They will take a little time to adapt with their new pet owner .The cats love cuddling .The cats would rather love everyone unconditionally than bond with a specific person.

It has a dense undercoat with a log glossy and smooth water resistant guard hairs hanging on the sides .

The cat adapts to weather and changes its coat accordingly. The cat sheds the coat during summer and spring .
The Norwegian forest cat needs plenty of exercise in form of play .This means you should play with the pet a lot .The cat will need through combing during molting .
This is a stage where you will find hair all over the house .The cat will however need less grooming during the rest of the year. You should comb your cat twice a week with a stainless steel comb .
This will help remove dead hairs that can cause tangles .You should thoroughly comb the fur on the legs especially the place where the legs meet the body .
Always use a baby wipe to clean the poop stuck to the fur .The cat will need a bath after a few weeks or a month at most. The teeth also needs to be brushed to prevent periodontal disease .
If you can’t brush your cats teeth daily at least do so after a week. Also trim the cats nails after every couple of weeks .Use a soft damp cloth to wipe the corners of the eyes .
Make sure to use a separate cloth for each eye to prevent spreading infections .Always check the ears which will probably be dirty after a week or so .
Use a cotton ball or soft damp cloth moistened with a mixture of vinegar and water to wipe the ears if they are dirty .The water and vinegar should be mixed in equal proportions .
Avoid cotton swabs as they can destroy the inner of the ear .Make sure the cats litter box is always clean .Keep the cat indoors to protect him from attacks by dogs .
Keeping the cat indoor also removes the possibility of the cat getting stolen or getting lost .
